The 11 O'Clock Wall:Why Black Coffee Makes Your Fasting Window Harder, And What 70,000 Customers Bought Instead

If you can hold a fast until mid-morning and then find yourself negotiating with the fridge by eleven thirty, this is worth four minutes before you buy another appetite trick.

★★★★☆ 4.5 out of 5 · 70,000+ customers

Bondi Pure Blood Orange pouch and stick pack on a kitchen counter with fresh blood oranges and a wooden scoop of the powder.
The window most people lose is a short one, and it lands at roughly the same time every day.

Julie B made it to eleven o'clock every single day. It was the ten minutes after eleven that beat her.

She had the routine down. Black coffee at seven, more coffee at nine, a third cup at ten, and a big glass of water when the coffee stopped working. By ten thirty she was fine, telling herself okay, let's just make it to twelve. By eleven forty-five she was standing in front of an open fridge door doing the arithmetic on whether that really counted as breaking anything.

This is the most common way a fast fails and it almost never gets described properly. People say they lack willpower. What they actually mean is that they were fine, and then very suddenly they were not. The switch flips at roughly the same time every day.

Julie is from Rochester, Minnesota. Her review is on Bondi Pure's own site and we have quoted it further down, unedited. But her problem is the interesting part, because it is not really a problem about willpower at all.

1What The Eleven O'Clock Wall Already Cost You

Before we get to what changed, it is worth adding up what most people have already spent trying to get past eleven o'clock.

APPETITE SUPPRESSANT CAPSULES, TWO BOTTLES $58.00 ELECTROLYTE STICKS, "FOR FASTING" $34.00 SUGAR-FREE GUM, ROUGHLY A PACK A WEEK $46.80 A THIRD BAG OF COFFEE, BOUGHT STRONGER $19.00 DRINKING MORE WATER $0.00 ----------- $157.80 RESULT: STILL EATING AT ELEVEN

The zero line is the one that matters. Nearly everyone has tried drinking more water. It is free and it does not work either. That is a clue, and we will come back to it.

2An Empty Stomach Empties Quickly

A ribbed glass of mixed Bondi Pure beside a scoop of the green powder on a white kitchen counter.

Here is the mechanical version, and it is duller than the wellness internet would like it to be.

How full you feel is largely a question of how fast your stomach is emptying. Slow the emptying down and hunger arrives later. Soluble fiber is the ordinary, unglamorous thing that slows it down. It absorbs water and thickens into a gel, and a stomach with gel in it empties more slowly than a stomach with liquid in it.

Now look at what is actually in a fasting window for most people. Black coffee. Water. Sparkling water. Green tea. Sugar-free gum.

None of those contain a single gram of fiber. Nothing on that list was ever going to slow a stomach down, no matter how disciplined the person drinking it was.

You have been fasting through a sieve.

That is the whole thing. Pour water through a sieve and it does not stay in the sieve. Pour it into a sponge and it sits there until something squeezes it out. Every trick in the list above is a sieve, which is why the eleven o'clock wall arrives at eleven o'clock however hard you white-knuckle it.

It also explains the free option. Drinking more water is genuinely the most recommended fasting advice there is, and it is the one that fails hardest, because water is the purest sieve on the list.

The cost of this shows up over weeks rather than in one bad morning. The window gets quietly shorter. You meant to reach one o'clock. You ate at eleven thirty. Next week you set a slightly easier target, and the week after that an easier one again, because the hard one did not work. Six weeks of that and you are keeping a much shorter fast than the one you set out to keep.

3Four Grams, And Where They Come From

Bondi Pure Blood Orange pouch, front label, showing 30 servings and the supports-fasting line.

Bondi Pure is a powdered drink made for the fasting window. It is not a greens supplement and we would rather say so plainly than have you notice on the label. The greens in it are present in small amounts, well under a gram each. There are four grams of fiber.

One scoop carries 4 g of dietary fiber, 14% of a day's value, inside 30 calories with no added sugar.

That fiber comes from four separate sources rather than one ingredient stretched thin, and all four doses are printed on the label.

Organic pea fiber
1.77 g

The bulk of the four grams. Ordinary and well understood. It is the reason the drink has any thickness to it at all.

Organic inulin
1.5 g

From Jerusalem artichoke. A prebiotic fiber, which is the sort your gut bacteria feed on rather than you.

Organic psyllium husk
500 mg

The bulking fiber people recognise from the pharmacy shelf. A small fraction of a pharmacy dose, so treat it as part of the four grams rather than as a laxative.

Coconut water powder
2 g

The base of the drink. The panel lists 90 mg of potassium per serving. Contains tree nut.

Twelve more dosed ingredients sit on the panel below those four. Hemp protein is the only substantial one at 1.66 g. The rest, including wheat grass, barley grass, spirulina and chlorella, are at 500 mg and below. They are not why the drink works and anyone comparing this against a dedicated greens powder should know that before they buy.

4Does 30 Calories Break My Fast?

Bondi Pure's own answer is no. Their published FAQ says thirty calories with no added sugar will not take you out of a fasted state, and that is the position of the company selling it.

Our own view is a shade more careful. Thirty calories is not zero calories. If your definition of a fast is strictly nothing at all, this does not meet it and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

What you are actually deciding is whether a 30-calorie drink that gets you to one o'clock is worth more than a 0-calorie coffee that gets you to eleven thirty. For a lot of people it plainly is. If you are fasting under strict medical instruction, that is a question for the person who gave the instruction, not for us.

Where does yours actually fall apart?

This is the fiber-shaped one. The gap you are trying to cover is short, an hour or two rather than a morning. Of the reviews Bondi publishes, the one that describes a longer fasting window is Julie B's, and she is writing at eight weeks.

The problem you are describing is at the other end of the window, after you eat. Nothing here stops that on its own. What it changes is how hungry you arrive, and arriving less hungry is most of the fight.

Be careful what you attribute this to. There is a tiny amount of matcha in here and it is not a stimulant dose, so if you are shopping for caffeine you are shopping in the wrong aisle. Several of the published reviews do describe better energy. None of them can be describing a stimulant, because there is barely any in it.

5What Actually Happens, And When

Nobody can tell you what this will do for you. What we can do is lay out what the published reviews describe and when, and let you judge whether that is worth trying.

Days 1–7

Taste, texture, mixability, and whether you'll actually bother making it. This is the part most supplements lose on. Mark C, Naperville, describes noticing gut changes inside a week.

Week 2–3

Kathy M, Kalamazoo, is writing at three weeks and describes steadier energy through the afternoon rather than anything about her fasting window.

Week 6–8

Where the two longest reviews sit. Julie B is the only reviewer who mentions extending her fasting window, and she is writing at eight weeks. Emitso Y, Phoenix, is writing at two months.

Month 3+

Nothing in the published reviews goes past this point, so we do not know.

All of those are individual results published by the manufacturer, not an average and not a promise. Some people will get none of it.

6What People Who Bought It Wrote

Every one of these is published on Bondi Pure's own site. We have not tidied them up.

★★★★★

“Bought this on a whim because I was really interested in the clean ingredients and promise to help with gut health and cravings. The product did what it promised. Sugar cravings went away, I was able to extend my fasting window, and still had energy for working out. My stomach issues were also solved and to my great delight, I lost 21 lbs. in 8 weeks!”

Julie B, Rochester, Minnesota
★★★★☆

“I've been recommending this product to family and friends who want a non prescription all natural appetite suppressant that really works! I've been using it for two months now. First fast was 10 days using only Bondi Pure and I felt fantastic. Second fast was 5 days only and the results were the same. Highly recommend”

Emitso Y, Phoenix, Arizona
★★★★★

“I started using Bondi Pure about three weeks ago. I have had no caffeine crashes, no headaches, no tired in the afternoon or slumps in the evening. My energy levels are amazing. My mood and emotions are even and I handle stress differently. I will NEVER not use this product. This has been life altering for me.”

Kathy M, Kalamazoo, Michigan
★★★★★

“Amazing love the taste, I love how it makes me feel, I love that it helps me with bloat, I love that my energy stays level no spike and my sleep is deeper. If you haven't tried it you need to try it, especially if you're not getting your vegetables.”

Alan R, Lakeland, Florida
★★★★★

“I started using this about a month ago. I did not change anything else. Kept doing my same workouts and eating the same. In a week this stuff detoxed my insides and my gut has never felt better. I also lost 6 lbs in that first week. As l kept using it I continue to tighten up and have dropped a couple more pounds. I love this stuff!!”

Worth putting next to the receipt at the top. The capsules, the sticks, the gum and the stronger coffee on that list came to $157.80 and the fast still broke at eleven.

A pouch is thirty servings. One a day, which is all the morning window needs, makes that a month. Bondi themselves suggest up to three a day, and at that rate it obviously goes a good deal faster, so work out which of those two you are actually buying before you compare the price to anything.

The sieve thing is annoyingly accurate. ive been doing black coffee and soda water for a year and wondering why I'm starving by 11 every single day.

Anyone actually tried it though? All these reviews are on the company's own site. Of course they're good.

@Dan R fair but the label is public, you can go and look at the fiber number yourself. That's the bit that convinced me more than the reviews did.

I'm on it about five weeks. Not a miracle. But I get to 1pm now without thinking about it and I couldn't do that before, so.

30 cals is 30 cals. That's not a fast, sorry.

@Tomasz you're right, and we say so in the piece. Thirty calories is thirty calories. You're deciding whether it buys you enough extra time to be worth it.

Does anyone know if it works if you eat normally? I'm not fasting, I'm just always hungry.
